Patau’s syndrome: What is It?

Today, lets look at a syndrome that affect about 1 in every 5,000 births. Also, 9 out 10 babies with the syndrome dies during their first year and about 1 in 10 babies with less severe form of the syndrome, for example partial or mosaic trisomy 13, live for more than a year. This syndrome is called ‘Patau’s syndrome’ and the risk of having a baby with it increases with the mothers age. So, let’s try and understand it and the factors that lead to it.

Everyday should be a world cancer day in Africa, cancer is too big of an issue in Africa for a one-day awareness. When 70% of death by cancer is from low-and middle-income countries, this illustrate a great public health problem in these regions, and the need for attention from the health organisations is an understatement.

Glaucoma: The second leading cause of blindness globally.

It is a major problem, we’ve been concerned about this for some time and we are now working hard to address this important cause of blindness. It highlights the growing problem created by chronic eye diseases, including Diabetic Retinopathy and Age Related Macular Degeneration.

Folic Acid: Everything you need to know about it.

Folic acid is the synthetic version of vitamin B9 (vitamin folate). Vitamin B9 helps in the production of healthy red blood cells in the body and it can be found in certain foods. There are various used of folic acid, it can be used to: prevent or treat folate deficiency anaemia; helps your unborn baby’s brain, spinal cord, and skull develop properly to avoid development issues (neural tube defects) for example spinal bifida.

Diabetes: Everything you need to know about it.

Today I will be talking about diabetes and how it has effect on our life and health. Diabetes is a lifelong condition that causes a person’s blood sugar level to become too high. Diabetes describes a condition in which the body cannot make proper carbohydrate in food because the pancreas does not make enough insulin, or the insulin produced is ineffective, or a combination of both.

World Psoriasis Day

There are several autoimmune conditions in which your immune system mistakenly attacks your body. Immune system normally guards against germs like virus and bacteria. When it senses these foreign invaders, it sends out an army of fighter cells to attack them. However, today we’re looking at psoriasis, a condition that causes rapid build-up of skin cells. This build-up of cells causes scaling on the skin surface.
